Outside the Cincinnati area, a local contractor CME Services was contracted by a plumbing company to line 40 ft of 12″ cast iron drain. This drain handles all the parking garage floor drains for the Macy’s corporate building in downtown Cincinnati. The plumbing company has been chasing this problem since the building was built. Code dictates that cast iron must be used for fire safety since much of this pipe is exposed and fumes from burning PVC would kill. The problem is the lines only get water from run off of cars and in the winter that’s not enough to flush the salt out of the lines! The result is a highly accelerated rate of corrosion in this drain. Every three to five years the exposed pipes are replaced because they are leaking. However, this section was incased in the concrete floor of the bank in the lobby. During the present remodel CME lined this section in subzero temperatures and the part of the building they were in was not heated! CME now hopes to convince them to line the rest of the building and be done once and for all! Cincinnati, to find out more about local installers in your area, contact Perma-Liner™ today!
